Bloom Where You're Planted
The Importance of a Positive Atmosphere
Welcome back to Swirling Visions. This has been the most incredible adventure, and I owe it all to you. What keeps me coming back are the countless expressions of affection I've gotten over the past year and a half.
Embarking on an uncharted path can be a daunting endeavor, especially when you lack guidance. Or worse if you start on a charted path, and not able to reach the end of it. This journey becomes even more challenging without the right support system in place.
Your support system starts at your home, expands to your friends and radiates out to your teachers and mentors. Family usually forms the cornerstone of a person’s belief in themselves. In the formative and adolescent years of life, a person spends the majority of their time with their family. The impressions formed during these years usually tend to stay with them for big piece of their life. There are many variables that contribute to an individual's development, but a nurturing family life has a significant impact on a child's success in life. You know how the greatest scientist might not have amounted to anything in life?
Many people consider Albert Einstein the most brilliant person who has lived, and his ideas lend credence to this claim. Unfortunately, this wasn't always the case. Albert faced a lot of difficulties in his early life just because of his unconventional thinking. Not only he faced bullying from his peers at school for standing out, Teachers ostracized him on his out-of-the-box thinking. He was a target of physical violence by classmates, which made him feel bitter and abandoned forcing him to change schools.
His mother and sister were, he said, his two biggest fans. Both of his parents had a passion for music and fostered their children's hobbies. Einstein's mother was particularly supportive of his curiosity and provided him with educational books to satisfy his thirst for knowledge. Maja, Einstein's younger sister, shared his enthusiasm for education. They frequently debated and discussed a wide range of issues, feeding Einstein's insatiable need for knowledge.
His situation reminds me of one of the most beautiful movies of Bollywood: “Taare Zameen Par”. I won’t ruin it for you, but it proves how having even one supportive person can make waves in your life. Go check it out if you haven’t seen it.
A little rant here: it has been such a long time since we have been discussing how effective supportive environments are. Even so, everyone faces some of kind of toxicity in our lives either at home, work or even between friends (those f***ing snakes). As a community, we must strive to extract best out of each individual and best way to do that is to provide supportive environment with some sprinkle of patience. How are we messing this up for such a long time?(!)
How to deal with an toxic environment:
I know talked majorly about how environment at home affects us, but it could well be the bullying that we face at school or the constant derision from our teachers. My point is: it might happen you may be in one shitty environment right now. It could look like parents dousing of your curiosity/dream, friends constantly making fun of you how you behave or your boss making shittiest of remarks. There is no one pill to deal with this and whatever you have read, cutting off emotions out of it is not as easy as it sounds.
Here are some tips to deal with it:
Seek out supportive individuals: Seek out individuals who will offer you unwavering support and positive reinforcement in your time of need. These could be people who share your interests and values. (Like I found you guys!)
Keep your eye on the prize: Create a strategy to realize your career and private aspirations. Even if you don't have the backing of your loved ones, this might offer you a feeling of direction and purpose.
Develop an optimistic outlook: I know this very hard than it sounds, considering when down in the deep. But this may assist you in maintaining a lighthearted attitude and an indomitable spirit amidst adversity. It is a continuous and iterative process, and as long as you wake up on the right side of the bed for most the days you are progressing.
Consider outside help: If you're having trouble with your mental health or feel like you could use some extra assistance, it may be time to talk to a professional. Most people have trauma because of the social conditioning, and it might help you a lot.
No one better than me can understand how you must be feeling. All I can provide is support for my love to you all. Keep fighting the negativity and cut off the people you can.
